It would be nice if his family would round him up and get him some help before something truly terrible happens.Didn't Charlie say that he's not listening to his dad? That would imply that Martin is trying to clue him in. But as any cop will tell ya, he's an adult and unless he's a clear and present danger to others....
...Chris was not my favorite person. He was extremely rude and abusive when he was using. In that short time he was clean before he died, he tried to be really nice to me, but I wasn't having it and was rather curt. Looking back, I don't think I should have done that. I think he was maybe really trying, but I was not close enough to him to know and he had pissed me off enough at that point that I doubted his sincerity. You have many good qualities, lee, and you just showed us another one: a capacity for introspection; for looking back, recognizing and admitting that you might've made an all-too-human mistake.
A lot of us would probably have done the same thing, were we in your shoes. I take a looooooong time to let people who've wronged me back into my life.

Before this comes out, Apple is going to have to let consumers know that they make the iPod. Not Microsoft.
Some people may think it's the new iPod, judging by the picture on engadget, and this thread/article posted earlier (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=191119) saying that most people don't know the iPod is made by Apple.
If people think this 'Micropod' is the new iPod it could be over for Apple, unless they release something at the same time.
BTW, about the picture posted on engadget, the buttons look '3G iPodish'. Maybe Microsoft is going to try and play catch up with MP3 players now :p edit: missed bcharna's post
OK, and were not on planet earth hehe... If people are that stupid then the worlds definitely gone for sure!
C'mon, apple will adhere to wireless USB technology and you can have your WIFI... could you imagine how long it will take to get high def audio files into it? I listen to 16 bit AIFF's @ 48 Khz and they are big files, this would take forever on a WIFI protocol. This is for the kids man!

I would think an iWatch would be a great seller for Apple.
Well, the iWatch (http://gizmodo.com/#!5634260/the-ipod-nano-watch-is-here-and-it-is-glorious) has been out for a while now, hasn't it? ;)

Open a stock app, like Messages or Photos.
Watch the animation, look at how the icons fly off to the edges of the screen and the app you pressed zooms forward from the centre of the screen and into full screen view. That, is the animation for launching an app.
Now try it on, for example, Infinity Blade, Engadget, TUAW, Dead Space, Final Fantasy 3 (basically 99.9% of third party apps). Notice that when you press the app icon, it dulls as normal, but then the app immediately appears on screen. No home screen icons zooming off to the edges of the screen, no app you are loading zooming forward from the centre of the screen to fill the entire viewable area.
Only once the app has been loaded, and is in the memory, can you open/close the app and get the animation as normal.
No doubt you'll say you don't have that on your phone, but there you go.
You're not alone. This happens for me too, including with this update. Even after a reboot. It didn't do it with any of the 4.0.x releases either. It started with 4.2 I think. Tap an app icon, freezes for a second, then the app appears with no animation. Or a very choppy animation.
I've tried both rebooting and restoring (as a new phone). I had less than a gigabyte free so I tried freeing up some space thinking that might help and even with ~2GB free it still does it.

I know that Bootcamp is not virtualization. What i am saying is that to run the OS in Bootcamp and a copy in parallels (legally) you would need to by the business or premium edition (or whatever they are called).
I have no issues with having the software installed once, although Apple allowing certain products to be installed on a desktop AND a laptop is great. But, I do not steal software. I really like what Apple does with their 'Family Packs'. You can add ~ 25-30% to the price and install it on five machines. That is great marketing and very fair.
I am not sure who is interpreting this EULA correctly and this thread sure does not need my uninformed opinion. But, if a single instance of a retail version of Vista cannot be installed anyway you like, that is a crock. With that being said, I have certainly not found a single 'scaled down' MS offering that was worth having, especially in a business environment.
It is part of my job responsibilities to evaluate and implement new technology. I am not even looking at Vista right now. Not that I like XP. MS is making my life very difficult.

Ugly, unsymmetrical, having a bit of a bezel actually is good for appearances.
And think of this, you don't always hold your phone vertical like that (it still looks ugly unsymmetrical vertical), for many things you are holding it horizontal. That would drive me buggy to have it that lopsided when using it horizontal just cause how ugly and unsymmetrical it would be.
As for the gesture button? Don't think so. That would be awkward to try to do those gestures in that smaller area.
Not to mention I am pretty sure what made the interface for the iPhone so popular and Apple's whole philosophy is that it was very intuitive how you operated it. When you want to change screens you flick the screen like you are pushing the screen you don't want to the side to reveal the screen you want. Not so intuitive like that to tell people to learn gestures on a small area where they aren't visually reminded of what they are doing.

as do i. right now you cannot use a custom domain name on mobileme email. thats why i use Google Apps, which offers this MX record functionality for free.
You can use your own domain, but you can't host anything requiring server-side scripting (wordpress, mediawiki, etc). Unless that has changed in the past year (which would be welcome news).

With thunderbolt you can use an adapter for USB 3.0. That is, once they start putting them on the market.
That is true. I was just thinking that if the new iMacs are gonna have USB at all, then they should be the fastest version. I'm not sure about this, but is the USB 3.0 plug the same as the USB 2.0 plug? I just think that it would be nice if these new machines would have the newest interfaces available. As far as Firewire is concerned, I have an external hard drive that uses FW 800. I am hoping that the new thunderbolt does not do away with FW all together. I know that the new MBP's actually have both. I hope the new iMac's do too.

Apple reported a great previous quarter, but thinks that the next quarter may see fewer sales due to a perceived slowdown in the US economy (even though anyone with even a gnat's knowledge of economy would know that it is not a big deal). The stock market is a bet on future performance, not past performance, therefore people who have no idea what they are doing [read: most investors] dumped the stock to make their profits. I have 50 shares at a split adjusted cost of $10, so I'm holding on to it for the long run.

You should've set a Stop Loss at 180 and now be very happy with a new buying opportunity. I actually used this fiasko for the high risk maneuver of buying base 180 Calls for Apple

I've seen the blue screen on XP. It's funny because I've been told by Windows users that it doesn't exist in XP, yet I witnessed it two weeks ago when a colleague of mine was trying to do something with Adobe Acrobat. The program just spazzed and the blue screen came up.
Entirely possible, but not necessarily a problem with XP. The operating system will immediately blue screen if an application attempts to write into an illegal memory area, which I've seem Acrobat do, and a Java application that used a native dll. I believe it's a security feature built into newer processors.
Zune?
The MS tactic will probably be the same as the one they used to defeat IBM, Apple and Palm; just keep throwing money at it, make gradual improvements until the competition makes a huge gaff and falls flat on it's face. They don't actually win; everyone else just kind of ... loses.
They've come from way behind before (remember when Palm had 90% of the PDA market) and ended up on top, but rarely on their own merits. Apple just has to keep up the marketing and keep adding value to the brand, and that should be enough to keep them ahead.

I'm excited about the update. I plan on getting a new iMac shortly after OS X Lion comes out.
I'm really hoping for an inexpensive SSD primary drive and 2TB secondary "spinning" drive.
A solid video card would be nice, but I really don't game that much, so that's not a deal killer.
I expect this may be the last of the classic 2005-style (L bracket, screen with "chin") iMacs produced. In 12-18 months I expect Apple will launch a new style of iMac with no "chin" and a drafting table style multi-touch screen.
Think iPad 2 with the "L" shape stand as the new iMac. Ditch the Optical Drive, not needed anymore considering its takes up space and is hardly ever used by the majority. :)
