Did your wife get your back on to H4 visa from H1? What was the procedure that you went with? I also am on H1 in the US and want to move back to H4. I plan to go to mexico and re-enter the US with my previous H4, which is valid till mid 2010. Is there any problem at the port of entry?

Hi All,
I have a question regarding the status check of the 485 process. Does USCIS change the Updated date (maybe a soft LUD) before approval/completion of processing of 485 on the Case Status.
I know its a yes/no/maybe not always kinda answer but I wanted to check with those who already had approved 485s if they had noticed updates before the Approval. If yes, what is the usual timeframe after the update when the approval has been noticed.
I am sure, like me :) you must have kept checking the Case Status page like crazy once the dates were current so, please respond and I am sure many will benefit from your responses.
I am sure, many of you who are still waiting like me,already have friends who went thru this process, so, even your inputs are welcome.

In my case, it did not. The I-485 application status changed directly to "Approval notice sent". Then next day I got "Card production ordered" and after that "Welcome notice sent".

The idea makes such good economic sense (the government would be price discriminating to increase its revenue) that if USCIS were a private entity they would have implemented something like this a long time ago. But unfortunately it is not and we have to suffer under a "one size fits all" system.

Does this mean that we have to file I-485 before August 1st?. From August 1st, the August visa bulletin is effective and all the EB category dates are U.:confused:

Okay this might seem really silly, but ... we got two kids < 2 years and our FP apt is at 8am. That's definitely going to mean cranky kids so I want to prepare as much as possible for the worst.
Question - How much time does the FP process take for two people? Ours is code 3 - fingerprints, photos, if that makes any difference. Is there typically a long wait at the USCIS centers?

Just because you are here on an L-1A, that does not qualify you for EB1. The immigrant petition in question is likely the Multinational Manager (MM) I-140. If you were a manager abroad and are performing in a managerial role in the U.S., you may qualify for EB1. As you initially came over in L-1B status, it is more likely than not that you will not qualify for EB1.
If you were in a managerial role (either functional or personnel) abroad, it may be worth discussing this option with your attorney. Odds are that they already examined this possibility and determined that it was an unlikely to succeed.

As far as possible, I would strongly suggest to stay away from small consulting companies. These typically pay you only when you are on project and that too after taking a huge cut from your billing rate. For e.g. it is very common for such a company to bill $80-100/hr i.e. $160-200K annually for an employee but pay the employee between $50-70K only.

I applied for H1-B visa on April 2007 and the petition was approved from October 2007 to 26Th of September 2010 but when I came to USA consulate office to get the visa it became pending putting under administrative processing. It took almost 3 years to get the reconfirmation and last week I received the visa.
The visa issuing date is 27Th May and the expiry date is 24Th August but there is another date in bottom right part of it as PED : 26 September 2010 which is my petition's expiry date.
Now I am planning to move to USA for a long term stay so that I am selling my stuff, renting my house,.. and I just got confused by considering this date.Does this mean my visa will be expire on September and my H1 visa is just for some months? In this case does this mean I have lost 3 years of the total 6 years of the H1 visa? or the the officer issuing the visa on I-94 form in the ports of entry can issue the visa for 3 years as a normal H1-B visa?
I have arranged with my employer to start the job on 10Th of July and I will enter USA on 8Th, so up to 26Th of September which is the PED date will be less than 3 months and if the white I-94 card that will be in my passport should correspond with the expiration of the petition, the total of my work duration, will be less than 3 months which really doesn't make sense at all but as it seems that's it!
It seems now the only way is to apply for H1-b extension. So there will be these questions:
1- how will be the process and how much are the fees?
2- How long does it take?
3- Do I have to go back to my home country to get the new stamp for extension?
4- Is there any way to renew it in USA ?

Non - English speaking or not isn't it the responsibility of the driver of the vehicle to drive following the rules of the Road. Why make a U-turn where it is not allowed. Why turn when it is written NO turn on Red. Is it the fault of the sign that you cannot read English.
US is an English speaking nation although people from all parts of the word live here. We have to abide by the common language which is English and not Spanish. The DMV cannot post sign in hundreds of languages that different people speak.
If the driver violated the law he must be given a ticket unless it is his first offence when a warning would be sufficient. Rules are meant to be followed.

I have decided to go for the SB-600 rather than the 800 because I don't think I need the extra functions at this point. It will save on $$$ and weight too.

You also have faster recharge since the flash is slightly less powerful but perfectly adequate... I was going to get an SB-800 but ended up with two SB-600s for now for the same price.
I will likely get one SB-800 (and maybe another SB-600) when I get my D2x so that I have commander mode available.
the two SB-600s I have have been great for the month I've had them - if your only body is a D70 you're golden - you can use the sb-5B-600 on remote and use the built in D70 flash as commander.
